Festival of the Dead
Celebrate the magic of Halloween with real witches and warlocks during their annual Festival of the Dead, part of Salem's Haunted Happenings in October. It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in activities that you'd rarely get to see anywhere else, including lessons on using a spirit board to conjure the dead (Oct. 22); an evening with a ghost hunter in a haunted New England graveyard (Oct. 21); and a chance to learn your future at the Psychic Fair (open daily in October).
The festival even has something for all ages. Register your little ones for a class with Ms. Firefly (Oct. 21) for lessons on making friends, allaying fears and banishing nightmares through the ancient art of spirit conjuration, then when the kids are tucked in bed, get your most mischievous costume together for the Salem Witches Halloween Ball (Oct. 27) and enjoy a night of dancing, free tarot card readings, fine hors d'oeuvres and a $666 cash prize for best costume. Then check out Salem's only authentic séance with renowned medium and psychic, Shawn Poirier (Oct 29), and finish the month off with your deceased loved ones at the Dumb Supper: Dinner with the Dead (Oct. 31).
